Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Beauty is always gifted to individuals by the Supreme Being, and every individual is flawed in some way or another; hence what is gifted to one should be enriched, maintained and enhanced to bring out the best of one’s facial features. One way to maintain facial features is to retain their moisture; retaining moisture prevents the loss of essential nutrients, makes the features shine brighter, and promotes cell growth.
The same applies to our hair. Apart from adding beauty to our body, it protects delicate organs like the brain against intrusion, traps the micro-organisms trying to invade our bodies etc. Hair, thus, is an important part of our bodies.
One way of nourishing the hair is by massaging them with oil, the purpose of any oil is to nourish the surface, add sheen, moisturize the surface, prevent drying etc. Thus it is important to nourish the scalp from time to time in order to maintain the required moisture level and, of course, enhance one’s beauty.
But how do oils get absorbed onto the scalp? How is it that just by applying a few drops of a liquid, we can boost the growth of our hair follicles?
“It is important for the hair oil to work on the principle of absorption and not adsorption; adsorption only includes the absorption of the topmost surface of the scalp, whereas absorption includes the seepage of the oil up to the roots to stimulate cell growth”. Explained a well-known cosmetologist specializing at a hair transplant clinic in Istanbul.
But why is it always emphasized to have a hot oil massage rather than a cold oil massage or a massage with oil at a normal temperature? If you have realized whenever an individual takes a bath in hot water or a steam bath, they feel more relaxed. Similarly, when hot oil is applied onto the scalp and massaged in slow circular movements that is when the hair follicles and the root cells get to relax and expand, thus promoting better seepage of oil deep into the surface of the skin and thus locking the moisture.
“It is always advisable to wash your hair in cold water the reason being when cold water is applied on the scalp, the scalp cells of the hair follicles tend to contract and thus lock the moisture within the hair roots, thus preventing the loss of essential vitamins and nutrients from the hair roots”.
The hot oil massage should be a manageable amount of time, as shown in tv commercials because that leads to entangling of the hair and thus leads to breakage. The second precaution is that massage should be seen as a pain-relieving exercise and not a pain-giving exercise; the movements have to be slow and gentle, and they should not be very aggressive and strong because that disturbs the entire essence of the massage” Explained one of the doctors who has been assisting cosmetic surgery in Istanbul since a long time.
