With a convincing victory over Bangladesh, West Indies Women secured their second victory in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. As reported on the betpro website, after Bangladesh was reduced to 103 by offspinner Karishma Ramharack’s four-wicket haul, West Indies took eight wickets remaining.
Bangladesh were largely silent inside the PowerPlay after being put to bat. They managed 33 runs on the sluggish Sharjah surface during that period, losing both openers. West Indies Women attacked primarily with their spinners, as customary on this field, and it paid off immediately.
Shanthi Rani was removed from the game by Offfie Rahmarack with a brilliant stumping by Shemaine Campbell off the first ball. After disclosing her rear end to Rahmarack, Dilara Akter, her opening partner, was dismissed a few overs later.
A 40-run partnership between captain Nigar Sultana and Shobhana Mostary for the third wicket stopped the losing streak. The former applied reverse pressure in an over, hitting three boundaries off Afy Fletcher.
When she was stumped before reaching her mark, she got a reprieve, but ‘keeper Campbelle’s retrieval of the ball before the stumps resulted in a no-ball.
That, however, had little bearing on how things turned out in the end. Campbell completed a clean stumping in the next over to dismiss Mostary, giving Rahmarack her third wicket as the West Indies struck back.
With Fletcher taking wickets off consecutive deliveries to destroy the middle order, Bangladesh was farther back on the ropes. Rahmarack dispelled any worries about a late surge with their fourth over, dismissing Ritu Moni, caught deep midwicket.
Before Hayley Mathews bowled out Sultana in the last over, her 39 had enabled them to squeak past the 100-run barrier, giving West Indies a target to aim for.
West Indies, who had a fantastic start to the chase owing to their openers, handled it expertly. Throughout the Power Play, Matthews was the prominent leader, manipulating the short lengths the Bangladeshi spinners ultimately offered and securing six boundaries for herself.
Before bowler Marufa Akter dismissed Matthews, the pair amassed a 52-run partnership while Stafanie Taylor, who was dealing with a niggle, remained still at the other end. With the West Indies just touching distance from the goal, Taylor was forced to retire on July 27 after managing her ailment until the halfway point.

With two sixes to seal the deal, Deandra Dottin gave West Indies a convincing victory and increased NRR, putting them atop the Group B standings for now.
