Winter Activity: “Penguin Waddle” drills where kids learn to keep the ball close to their feet (dribbling) while navigating obstacles.

Parent Involvement: This is a parent-participation class. It’s a great way for you to get some light exercise with your little one on a cool Saturday morning.

The Fundamentals Group (Ages 4–6)

This age group is exploding with imagination. They are ready to learn the “how” and “why” of soccer, but it still needs to be wrapped in fun.

The Focus: Ball control and direction. Learning to stop the ball with the sole of the foot and turn in different directions.

Winter Activity: “Ice Breaker” games where they have to pass the ball through “gates” (cones) to score points.

Training in the winter looks a little different than the summer. Since we are local to Long Beach, we know exactly how to handle the coastal winter climate.

Lighting and Safety Since the sun goes down earlier, our late afternoon sessions for the 7-10 age group are held on well-lit fields at our partner parks. We ensure visibility is perfect so safety is never a concern.

Layers are Best: Start with a long-sleeve base layer under the jersey. As they run and heat up, they can peel layers off.

Hydration: Kids don’t feel as thirsty in cool weather, but they still sweat. Our coaches mandate water breaks just as strictly in winter as they do in summer.

Rainy Day Plans This is Long Beach, so rain is rare, but it happens. We have a clear communication system. If the fields are closed due to mud, we have backup dates or rain-credits ready to go. We don’t play on muddy fields to protect your child’s ankles (and your car’s upholstery).
