Laura Wolvaardt and Marco Jansen Win the Most Honours at the CSA Ceremony

The top cricket player from South Africa demonstrated her extraordinary potential by leading the squad in runs scored in both ODIs and T20Is during the 2023–24 season. 

She also assumed leadership of the national team this past season. The most notable accomplishment for Wolvaardt this year was when, in a June match in Chennai, she scored her first-ever Test hundred against India.

Wolvaardt won multiple awards and the coveted Women’s Player of the Year title. She received awards for being the One-Day International Player of the Year, the Players’ Player of the Year, the Fans’ Player of the Year, and the Women’s T20 International Player of the Year. 

These honours are a testament to her steady play and enormous impact off the pitch. Wolvaardt’s position as one of the best players in women’s cricket has been cemented by her leadership and batting prowess, which have been crucial to South Africa’s success.

Marco Jansen received the Men’s Player of the Year award for the men’s team. The tall left-arm fast bowler Jansen was instrumental in leading South Africa to the semi-finals of the 2023 ICC Men’s World Cup after an outstanding season. 

Jansen was acknowledged as one of the tournament’s top bowlers due to his exceptional bowling achievements, which included taking 17 wickets during the competition.

The Men’s One-Day International Player of the Year went to Quinton de Kock, who announced his retirement from ODI cricket in recognition of his outstanding performance in his last season. 

De Kock became the highest run scorer for a South African batter in a single World Cup after an incredible World Cup campaign in India, where he amassed 594 runs. 

His performance in the competition sealed his reputation as one of South Africa’s best performers and was a fitting conclusion to his ODI career.

Reeza Hendricks won the Men’s T20 International Player of the Year title at the CSA ceremony, and Keshav Maharaj was selected as the Men’s Players’ Player of the Year by his peers. 

These were two of the other noteworthy awards given out. Following their outstanding initial performances on the international stage, David Bedingham and Eliz-Mari Marx were named the International Men’s and Women’s Newcomers of the Year, respectively.

Marizanne Kapp defeated Australia’s Beth Mooney with a superb delivery, earning her the Best Delivery by KFC title. Known as one of the best bowlers in women’s cricket, Kapp demonstrated her skill with an in-swinger that took Mooney off course. 

Masabata Klaas, on the other hand, received the Makhaya Ntini Power of Cricket Award in recognition of her remarkable journey back to cricket following a maternity leave. In addition to his outstanding return, Klaas has acted as a mentor for the team’s younger players.

This year’s CSA Awards honoured the remarkable talents in South African cricket, underscoring the nation’s significant influence on the global scene with memorable events and standout performances.
